What book from your childhood would you like to see made into a movie?

View 157 Answers

ZOMG. The Alanna books. (If you don't know what that means, please find out.) All of them, of course, but specifically the third one.

Also the Daine books and the Ali Books and the Beka Cooper books.

I mean, I can only credit the fact that they haven't yet with Tamora Pierce's sense of foresight and good taste, but still. I would pay 9 bucks a show to see that.

Today I am thankful for an answer to a tense situation. I'm not sure it's a happy answer (though also not sure it's sad), but I am relieved to know I will not be expected to sustain the unsustainable.

I am thankful that my Firefox decided to stop freezing up, so I can be done with Google Chrome at least temporarily.

Also thankful that when Firefox does brainfart on me, I have alternatives besides Internet Explorer.

I'm swiping this from tinylegacies. Apparently there are exactly forty days until (USian) Thanksgiving (including today and the day of). So the concept is to post one thing you are thankful for each day.

I am thankful that I will have clean underwear for tomorrow.

Someone in a community of which I'm a member created anytimeyoga_rss to follow my yoga blog via LJ.

Ps -- I totally just typed that as "anytimetoga," which is a different sort of blog, I think.

Uck. Via NPR.

And in effect, in so far as taxpayers are ultimately the ones who pay public employees salaries and pay those union dues, public employees are in effect subsidizing the Democratic Party.

Um, no.

Once I get my salary, it becomes private money. It becomes my money. I can contribute to my union or to Lutheran Social Services or to Focus on the Family or to Planned Parenthood. I can purchase beer or Bibles or Qur'ans or porn or "The Best and Worst of American Idol" DVD.

And there's not a public conflict of interest with any of that. Because when I'm deciding how to spend my personal income, I'm acting as a private citizen. That is the point at which it ceases to be anyone else's damn business.

I tried to write something more eloquent, I really did.

But the layers of lies (denial, spin, etc.) are so numerous and intertwined that the title sums it up best.

Recap from Part 1: Even though Cunning Linguist had more votes, I think I'm going to go with Thai Silk. Blue eyes + orange eyeshadow = sound color theory.

Part 2 = basic browns. I have this already, and while it's awesome, I'm looking for something a little lighter and/or warmer (peach/copper instead of gold-inflected) this time around, as it might wear a little more subtly.

Brown-Related Things
Considering any of these in combination with Thai Silk is a plus but not required.

Votes?

I have enough monies in my PayPal to get three (3) more Sweet Libertine eyeshadows.

(Please note: In my version of reality, PayPal only exists on the Internet and therefore can only be used to purchase frivolities from the Internet. Suggestions to apply my PayPal balance toward something practical will be summarily ignored, as they should be.) ;)

I have a general idea of the types of colors I want, but I'm having a little trouble whittling it down to specifics. So, what better way to decide that to put it up for an LJ vote? (The other option was to Facebook each and see which one got the most "likes," but as a general rule, I trust my Facebook friends less than my LJ ones.)

I have only a basic LJ account, so there will be no nifty pollage. But please, check out the colors and feel free to vote in the comments. I am totes okay with counting things up by hand. (Math is hard, yo, but when I say that, I mostly mean geometry, not counting.)

Peach/Pink/Orange/Etc.

In no particular order (by which I mean alphabetical order, because that's how my brain works):

Which one?

As I type, my political news junkie sources (the Arizona Secretary of State) tell me that John Huppenthal is currently about 142,000 votes ahead of Penny Kotterman in the race for Suprintendent of Public Instruction.

That's right.

We have elected a businessman and a career politician over someone who actually has an education background and experience inside a public school classroom.

Do we really place so little trust in teachers?

I'm sure y'all have see this, but:

Paladino Laces Speech With Antigay Remarks

Highlights include:
  • "I don’t want them brainwashed into thinking that homosexuality is an equally valid and successful option" -- 'Cause, you know, accepting diversity is always the result of brainwashing.

  • His campaign manager, Michael R. Caputo, denied assertions that Mr. Paladino was antigay, and noted that he employed a gay man on his campaign staff. -- This one gay guy agrees with me! Or needs a job. So it must mean I'm a Good Guy®!

  • Mr. Caputo said... "“Carl Paladino is not homophobic, and neither is the Catholic Church.” -- Right. No history of persecution there. And forecasting eternal damnation, well, them's just facts.
